"What's Death Got To Do With It?" is The Kamlak Center's latest event aimed at putting birth and death back together again. The two-hour presentation is designed for people who are grieving or facing end-of-life issues, people with questions about death and afterlife, and people who may not be aware of the research of the last 50 years about death.

In this presentation Dr. Betty Kovács will discuss new scientific insights that support the survival of consciousness, modern experiences beyond death, the creative power of grief as well as her own experiences surrounding the multiple deaths in her family. Within about three years Dr. Kovács lost her mother, her only child and her husband in three separate automobile accidents. They experienced precognitive dreams, visions, synchronistic events, and after-death communications.

Until we can balance birth and death and realize the sacredness of both, we cannot live life fully. Fear of death limits our mind's ability to think, to perceive and to experience beyond the physical world. Our healing depends upon restoring the mind's wholeness by honoring both dimensions of consciousness: the rational, conceptual mind and the dreaming, visionary, intuitive mind.

Dr. Kovács received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, in Comparative Literature and Theory of Symbolic Language. She has studied and taught in Europe and the United States. She is Professor Emerita, Pasadena City College, Pasadena, California, where she taught literature, writing, mythology and symbolic language for over twenty-five years. She has studied the spiritual traditions of prehistory and indigenous cultures and has worked with shamans from the Amazon and the Andes in Peru. Dr. Kovács has also served many years on the Board of Directors of the Jung Society of Claremont in California. She is author of The Miracle of Death. In August 2009 she presented Experiencing the Mystery of Death--and Life at the 8th Annual Scientific & Medical Network "Beyond the Brain" Conference, University of Kent, Canterbury, England. COMMON GROUND SPIRITUAL CENTER, an inclusive spiritual community in Tustin, California, has invited Dr. Betty Kovacs for an evening discussion about The Miracle of Death. Dr. Kovacs will also touch upon the subject of death from the perspective of Stephen Levine's book, Year to Live: How to Live This Year as Though it Were Your Last.

Within about three years Dr. Betty Kovács lost her mother, her only child, and her husband in three separate automobile accidents. To survive their absence from the physical world, she had to learn to hold the threads of life in one hand and the threads of death in the other. In this presentation she will speak about having to learn how to live in harmony between the worlds of life and death and how to weave them together into one dynamic, living fabric. She will share some of her family's precognitive dreams, visions, after-death communications and synchronistic events that surrounded the deaths in her family. In addition, she will discuss new scientific insights on the survival of consciousness as well as cultural limitations that we must confront as we embark on our journey into deeper orders of reality.
